January, February, & March of 1944

Cleaned house – Had eggnog at Pa’s – Rained all day. Bradley& Marzell coming to stay alnight with us.

The Burks left early for O’Fallon – Gave them A.M.’s dog, Butch – Am I glad.

Washed – beautiful day – Poor Ollie; She isn’t in Love and James is. – She is miserable. – camp Fire Board Meeting 7 P.M.

Washed & ironed – George is home with sore throat – A.M. still working for Dr. Barnett.

Vision of Mama – Cam. Meeting for Teen Canteen at 4 – Night Club at Grace Garrison’s

Canteen Chairman meeting Ft. Worth Club 10 A.M. – Ironed – George went to school.

Finished that ironing – Enchelidas at Burseys – First meeting of Teen Canteen – had about 400

400 Teens turn out to feed service men in transit.

Becky back for first time since “Little Wesley” died. – Everything frozen – Snowed but didn’t stay on long. Teen canteen tonight – Not so many…about 200.

Rested all day knitting boys some helmets. Edgar Deen gave us some filet steaks – They were grand.

Washed & Ironed – cut George out some pajamas

Tea at Mary VanZandts – Hair dresser – Ironed, washed – Civic Music Ballet

Cold, Ice, Snow – Worked for first time at Blood Bank – Really like it – Was appointed chairman of Meacham Field Canteen today.

Ironed some – Cleaned house – Alice Marie’s silver came in – just bought 8 of everything for her.

Becky back – She just comes on Saturday morning (sometimes) – Dance at Colonial with Melinas – Lots of fun.

Almost finished the ironing – Hair dresser (driving the same car with two tires different)

Blood Bank Canteen – I am chairman for Wed. Morn. - Wed. Night Club at Burseys – I almost went to sleep – Poor Burseys, their boys both have divorces now. Our time’s coming.

Attended Garden Club luncheon at Colonial – the first time I have attended this year – Shriners Dance at Texas Hotel.

Play day at Colonial – I was Leta Greagory (Mrs. Bryan Greagory) guest – We just gossiped & played Black Jack – Ester Ruth & Margaret Petteway – also Jack’s girl, Bobby also there – Had dinner with us.

Billy Chandler in town – Mrs. Trimble has high blood pressure, Billy & I went to town – Her husband is Col. In Army & her son goes in soon. The Lloyd Barrets are in town – We went to Dr. Barretts to see them.

Another ambulance wrecked – Same drive
Raining just so much, I decided to play some – Sending most of laundry out – Was asked to join 1907 Study Club & did. What will I do next? (I don’t have anything to do)

Work at Santa Fe Canteen 6 A.M. to 12 noon.

Blood bank Canteen 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. – Rummy at Ma’s. Just took their money.

Meeting with Mrs. Heiser at 11 here – Worked all day on Canteen reports – Dinner with Petteways – found it a (political dinner) for Jesse Martins

Took Bill to town to buy rationed shoes – Ol went to Pitsburg, Tex on a funeral – Due home tomorrow

Rained all day, just drizzle – took A.M. to dentist – made appointments for all three boys.

Picked up – Went to Meacham Field to check eequipment – Men started cutting back our trees – Knife & Fork Club at Paschal Hi. – Took Miss Low to Teen Canteen.

Cleaned house all day – Attended tea for Shirley McQuithen – alice M. was in house party, helped Ol set out onions – Donky threw George off.

Just couldn’t help washing – Everything a mess. Bill has cold – Stayed home. Canteen gave me a surprise lunch – brought food – Gold pin & ear screws – also an orchid – What a lovely surprise. Yard still looks like a forest.

Attended Dallas Camp Fire District Meeting – Left here at 8 – I gave report on National laws – Rained like a flood. Oliver went to Okla. On amb. call. – I tried one dress at Mrs. Ramey’s.

Blood Bank – Hair Dresser – Tried on dresses at Mrs. Ramey’s again. – Burseys & Flossey came over in eve.

At home this morn – Pour tea for Elizabeth Laughridge from 4 to 5. – Camp Fire Dinner at Colonial for Miss Allen Nat. E (r?).

Reception for Miss Allen at Methodist church – Teen Canteen – Boys Apollo Choir - Everything but chorus. That was in Dallas - which shall it be? Poured punch for the reception – Swore I wouldn’t.

Ollie going to school dance in New Black eve dress – What a day – Waxed floors – took Jack to Bobby’s then to Show. I’m glad to fall in bed.

Meacham Field Canteen opens – sure nice, but what a job – 8 women on a shift – 2 2 shifts were snowed – a huge success – Took Boys to Dentist.

Meacham Field – Cold & raining – I get there at 8 each morn. – Motor Corp brings 4 others at 9 – Picture show at night – caught cold – Signed papers to sell 2 acres of White Settlement $2500.00

Meacham Field – I can’t talk – have bad throat – Taking Sulpher Thysol – Home in bed – Ollie & George stayed home with me.
