October, November, and December of 1944

Went to Meacham Field Canteen today – for a little while. – Put George back to bed with temp 99°

10/2/1944
Geo still in bed. – I did some washing & ironing. – Ol & I went to see another show. – Saw Melvin Cooper in news reel.



Tuesday
10/3/1944
Geo still has temp 99° - looks terrible. – got letter from A.M. & Geo. – They didn’t get the apt. – Ironed some more – Sent the kids trunks today.

Rained last night, - tried to get some thing done. – No luck. – Marzelle & I played gin rummy in eve. – Ol worked.

I still feel terrible. – Tried to clean up again, but don’t get much done. Another pup died. – I shampooed my hair – cut pajama pants & sewed them up.

Really cleaned kitchen. – Geo still in bed, but clear of fever. – Looking for Canteen workers. – We served 11,652 men last month. – Ol goes to Patrol or Shrine tonight.

Jack & I did the laundry. – Coffee with Neta – Ironed, went to see another farm at Eagle Mt.

Went to Canteen, - Came home & cooked lunch, - fresh pineapple pie. – Went to Marzelle’ for a while. – Had hot for dinner, - Marzelle came home with me.

Geo went to school today. – I went to Canteen again, - Brought Geo home for lunch, - Town & Literary Club.

Really worked at Canteen this morn. – Left in time to pick u George for lunch. – Marzelle came over & we peeled nearly 2 bu. Of hard pears & preserved half of them.

Went to Montgomery Wards- Shopped, - Had my hair fixed, - Finished cooking pears, - Bought groc. – Night Club at Barretts. – Marzelle & *I had lunch at Mexican Restaurant.

Nice birthday. Ester Ruth Sharp had. – Lella, Marzelle, Bess Trimble & myself over for lunch – Coffee with Ma & Shrine Circus in eve. – Ol and kids gave me chest for silver.

Geo. Is home with worse case of asma he has had. – Pop-corn.

Geo. Is still in bed. – Helbing says he has the flu.

Geo still feels terrible. Bursey’s came over to play bridge. He says he better check Geo. Good Monday. – Coffee with Neta. Sunday, carped all day, stayed home all day.

Took Geo. To Bursey. He examined him for everything. He has been clear of fever 2 days. Had letter from A.M. & Geo. They have nice apt.

Geo. – no fever again today. – Still out of school. – let him go to Canteen & gro. Store.

All tests for Geo negative except typhus fever. Shows that was what was wrong when fever was so high 3 weeks ago (Sept. 23). Ol& I found another farm at Saginaw. Made offer.

Ollie has nice birthday, 20th. I attended Garden Club at Petteway’s. Geo goes to school – went yesterday afternoon – Feels fine.

Geo to Bursey for cold shot. Did the laundry – took all my old shoes to be repaired.

Becky didn’t come today. Worked all day. Neta’s for coffee. Ol & I chaperoned Ollie’s Club at dance at Texas.

“Texas” I assume is the Texas Hotel. Now it is the F. W. Hilton Crystal Room Where JFK had his last breakfast.

Sewed seat in little boys pants all day – Teen Canteen open house.

Laundry – Red Cross Canteen – Antique Show with Marzelle – ironed – football game with Joe Mills.

Geo. To Dr. Bursey’s – Neta’s for breakfast – Played rummy with Marzelle – Ol took Jack & Bill to Football game.

Worked all day – Ol & I had dinner at Triple XXX – Talked to Crosses. – He looks terrible. – Played Bridge at Bursey’s. She made two cute hats for girls.

Geo woke up with temp 101.1° - Must have a fresh cold. Did laundry & cancelled all engagements. Ol works at office. Tonight cold same

Cooked all morning – picked up pecans in afternoon.

As of early Dec. ‘07 the pecan orchard, planted by Judge S. D. Shannon, is now a clean level lot of white gravel. Gas well rig should arrive any day. They did leave the perimeter trees.

Cary Grant is great in this Cappra film. Compare to J. Stewart in “Harvey”
