Shampoo, dinner with Earnest Allen’s – A.M. brings in bed spreads & drapes for their room. She can spend more money than 5 people could make.

Coffee with Neta, Elsie is down – Mr. Cooper of the Apollo Boys Chorus from Dallas invited Jack to sing in his chorus, but he has to go to camp for 8 weeks & study. Impossible.

Celebrated by cooking all day, looking for farm in afternoon, drive in picture show in eve

Celebrated by washing all day. Everything is closing on account of Infantile Paralysis. 29 cases reported with 3 deaths.

Chairman Canteen meeting, Shampoo – Mr. Cooper called all day trying to get Oliver about Jack going to camp, but nothing doing – To raise children, you should be millionaires

I’m just sick because we can’t do things for our kids – Wednesday night club at Wyatt’s.
Ollie enjoying camp.

Canning more tomatoes, making 41 qts. so far.
Wanda Fae Wyatt quit her job at Rationing Board today. Alice M. wants to, says they do not do right but couldn’t work.

Anywhere for 30 days, Gov. ruling during war – Bill passed last May. First aid attendant must be on every ambulance or $100 fine per day to be enforced in August. Class started at office last night.

Bought reptile purse to match my shoes. Worked ½ day getting boxs ready to send Ollie & A.M., Cooper Jr. and wife. Boys to go to picnic at Moores. We go to First Aid

Mussolini resigned his place in Italy. Sounds good. Oliver looking every day for farm. Boys bought small lathe.

Becky Came today – I didn’t get much done – still feel terrible – gave the boys motor in little washing machine for their lathe.

Washed most all day. Ida says she is coming tomorrow. Can’t believe it. Have to write Ollie & tell her there will be no canoe trip for her this year.

Canned squash all day – put 16 qts. in cold storage. Mildred Cross birthday dinner at her home.

Canned Tom, and made wild plum jelly.
Bed early.

Coffee with Neta – Ol said Ollie could go on canoe trip. Those men….. Alice M. & Ol & I went to picture show.

Looked at Plaxco’s 5 acres – don’t know why we are buying it – drive in picture show.

Saw preview of Red Cross picture of nurses on Batan, Conditions were terrible – Club at Barretts – Ol & I won cut – Betty Brock spent the night with A.M.

Alice M. & I went to Dr. Howard for our sinus – We sure sure feel bad. Marvin’s birthday – Ol works at Draft Board

Gave A.M. her gifts, George L. had me buy his gift for her, a leather hat box – We started her crystal & China. George called her long distance. She was happy on her 21st birthday. Ol and Jack, Oscar Wyatt & Henry Harding left for Don Martin Dam to go fishing. George S. & I went to Dr. Howard – He will have to have glasses & my sinus is giving me a fit.

Alice M., Bill, George S. & myself went to the drive in last night. Slept late today. A.M. went to church, I cooked her Birthday Dinner. She took George S. & Bill to picture show. I am resting.

The wash took all day – took my electric iron to be repaired. Ol called home last night – They got to Don Martins Dam at 7:30 P.M. Sunday – drove all night.

A.M. had to have physical for job – took her to Dr. Bursey. He vaccinated George & gave him Schick Test – then Dr, Howard fitting him for glasses – came home & ironed some.

Got up at 5:30 – ironed steady until 1:30 – Ollie sent wire 12:30 last night – She had left St. Paul at noon – didn’t sleep any more – received another wire at 12 noon – says she will be in at 12:26 tomorrow. Goody!

Ollie arrived early, tired, sunburned, sleepy, dirty, but happy. We just talked all day.

Jack and Ol came home from fishing – lots of fish – We have one large family conflab – Am I glad to get all my family home again

Conflab is convention or professional gathering.

Ol goes to Draft Board – George got his glasses – Ollie went to El Tesoro – We went to the drive in.

A terrigly hot day – played rummie over at the house – Elsie is down – Ollie came in late.

Ollie & I washed all day – She thinks it’s bad A.M. gave Mr. Robinson notice she is quitting the 3rd of Oct. to stay home & keep house for me.

Got my silver out of lay-a-way, just 1 fork & I will have 6 of everything – George’s vaccination made him sick.

Cleaned house and ironed – My fall house cleaning is getting under way – Night Club at Garrusibs

Cleaned house all day – Ol worked at Draft Board – Had to go to office later. He has a bad cold.

Showers – Fish Fry scheduled for office force called off – Boys are all busy – Ol has to go out of town on service. I finished ironing – Girls are doing their ironing now – Sure cuts down on laundry.

Cooked all Day. Ollie is working in the Camp fire office as Junior Assistant. She is happy.

Ol went to LaGrange, Tex. Funeral Directors meeting – left here 6 P.M. – Got there at 2:30 A.M. – Rest and fun, drove over to Kerville.

Ol in meeting. I slept all day – Chicken Barbecue & dance at night – lovely country, all Germans & Checks.

Left Lagrange – drove to Kerville, then to Mason to stay all night – Saw where Ol went hunting – Mason is a pretty place, so quiet except the town clock



Thursday

Drove home by way of Buchanan Lake & Longhorn Cavern – Had lunch at Llano, started raining at Lampasas – It just poured – got home in time to pick up girls from work – Jingles pups came last night.

Jingles has 8 black pup. They are cute. Couldn’t get in house. Worked in kitchen all day.

Fish Fry for boys at office – Rebecca helped me. Bill has bad toe – in bed with Epsom salts pack on it.

Cleaned up, then rested – picture show at night A.M. went to Wanda Fays. Ollie went to lake with Warren & brother – Such saps!

Bills toe better – Took him to Dr. He didn’t go to school. I washed (ironed some)

Had hair done – Ironed - Bill went to school.

Ironed some more – Went to town – bought Ol belt for birthday.

Mrs. Bursey came over – Stayed all afternoon – Taught me how to crochet.

Mrs. Bursey went to hospital emergency.

Washed, breakfast with Neta – Bought a bond for George – Last day of Bond drive – Canteen – Worked at Bruners – Sold over $20,000 Bonds.

Worked all day – Picture show in eve – Ollie is signing in St. Johns quire – A.M. went to church with her today.

[She really did spell Choir – quire. Must have had a phonetic day.]
