Luncheon at Ft. Worth Club – Committee selecting manager for Teen Canteen – served

Sew & iron - Maid hired, and comes today.

Alice M. works all day – Goes to Hospital for appendix operation

Alice M. operated at 8 P.M. – I stayed with her until almost 2 P.M. – Ol stayed until 5:30, then I stayed all night – She was sure sick.

I’m sure the 8 was actually AM.

Alice M. better – The appendix was bad – Good thing it is out. Ol was up most of the night with George – has running fever.

Easter Sunday – No Easter finery – Had Dr. Helbing with Geo. – Thinks he has measles. A.M. better – Ollie sang in St. Johns Choir. Jack & Bill went with her.

Geo.’s temp 104 4/5 last night – Didn’t sleep much – He is solid with measles. Bringing A.M. home NOW – No more Methodist for us. It’s terrible – Wind is high – cool – Daddy busy

Opened Meacham Field on Sunday – We served 240 flyers.

Just worked – picked up,- went to Canteen to take supplies – attended 1907 club at Mrs. Geo. Adams – We found our donkey – Jack rode him home – took 2 hrs.

Everything wrong today – Washed, ironed & it rained – George said I was ruining the whole effect of his good looks by making him wear a sweater –Shrine dance & I’m dead.

Man treated house for termites – then sprayed powder all over everything for water roaches – didn’t have many but the cure is worse than bugs – have to clean entire house – Maid mad so I fired her.

Another maid? Anybody want to count?

Washed pots, pans dishes all day – cleaned in kitchen – thought I would never get thru & I didn’t. It rained hard. Becky helped me. – Ol, George & I drove ambulance to Elsie’s.

Played poker with Elsie & friends – went to bed at 3 A.M. Sat night – Ate late breakfast, then drove home in rain.

Was this to break in a new engine or a rationing thing? Probably both.

Picked up & talked over phone – took dish towels to Canteen, then went back & scrubbed – Jack gave up paper route.

Danny was hired for The Press by Jack’s first manager about 1967- same route.

Jack: Were Elbertine & Marvin living with Ma & Pa? Picnic was probably in pecan ORCHARD.

Bill had calomel O.K. but home today- Jack is throwing his route – wash to get everything cleaned up before I go to Hospital – Buffet Supper Dance for Patrol – Cocktails at Sharps at 6.

Calomel? Jack had given up route 5/11.

Beautiful peonies ((V,W, Boswells) magnolias in white container from Mrs. Brown – Canteen & Sunday School sent pot plants – so did the Burseys – Mixed containers from…….

Came home this morning – Winnie, Marzelle, Ester Ruth, Funkhauser, Mildred & Fain. The peonies came from the V.W. Boswells & Eastern Star. Candy & corsage from Mrs. Helbing.

Jack goes to work for his Daddy – Bill & A.M. are to help me – Ollie goes to camp El Tesoro, Corpus Christi & Tulsa – George just warts around.

Feel better each day – Still taking it easy – A.M. is having a time pleasing Ol. She went to town yesterday to pay bills & she is cleaning Georges room today.

Drug down stairs for 1st time after operation. – Jack is going to have to go to summer school to work off Geometry. – Failed twice under McCune, so won’t take chance again.

Doing fine – Ollie came home tonight from El Tesoro National training course. – Today is D-Day Invasion of Europe.

Went to Dr. He says I am O.K. = Hair Dresser – Ollie left at 11 A.M. on bus for Corpus Christie to assist/attend another National Training Course & council there.

Maid said “House too big, family too large & not enough money,” She worked 8 hrs. 2 days & 4 days. Paid her $11.80

Ol & I left for Big Springs for Funeral Directors Meeting. – Ol is on State Board. – We went by train – Had drawing room traveling. – Not so bad.

Arrived in Big Springs at 8:30 A.M. – Had breakfast – I rested until noon – had lunch & I rested all afternoon – Barbecue at Country Club in eve.

Stayed over today to rest but we didn’t. – Visited with Mrs. Ebberly all day. Left at 10:20 – had drawing room home.

Arrived home at 8:50 – Breakfast – Canteen Meeting at 10:30 – Lunch with Lella & Esther Ruth, Shopped – Hair dresser – Then Canteen meeting, home – Bursey’s in eve.

Bought more plumbs from Burseys – Prepared the juice – Canteen in afternoon
