War Years Diary
Of
"Munnie"
January 1, 1942
To
December 31, 1946
This book is a gift to me from my daughters on my 41st Birthday. They firmly believe "Life Begins at Forty." I wish I had kept a diary from the day Alice Marie was born, so I could let my children read of the happiness and worries they have given me. Being an only child myself, I hardly know what to do with five very active Americans.
From your moderator:
I intend to post a month of this diary every Friday. The Day, Date, and Entry are as close to the manuscript as I can keep them. I left the spelling as it is in the manuscript. Some common abbreviations are: "Ol" for Oliver. "A.M." is Alice Marie. "Canteen" was an organization of American Red Cross that feed air crews at Meacham Field. My comments and questions, if any, are below the entry. If you have ideas or answers I would very much appreciate it if you will post your response preceded by the date or month that you are responding to.

Uncle Joe asked in an e-mail:
"so who is grandad (that #)?"
Grandad1219 is my screen name for this blog. Like your screen name is Uncle Joe.
After our grand babies started arriving there was some discussion about what they should call me. JtheP suggested in a very compelling (& well written) message that I should take up the 'Grandad' moniker. The 1219 is our anniversary.

Danny, I am usually unable to comment ... I read at home, See? But I am really enjoying the blog and I wonder in general what Grandad was doing going to so many stag meetings...? Can't wait til Mom meets Dad! Caroline
What a wonderful and unique project you have going here!
You're preserving traces of someone special and you're doing it in a very methodical way.
Bravo!
